Spring Break Ski Trip

Good Morning!  Thanks so much for all the sweet comments on our entry.  Things are slowly coming together in this home.  I can't believe next month we will already be living here 1 year!

I've been meaning to do a recap of our trip to Breckenridge, CO over Spring Break and finally got a few pictures off my phone to share.  I again brought my "good" camera, but didn't take a single picture with it.  So everything is with my phone, but they still capture the beauty of the mountain and some of our fun!  The picture above and below is the view from our lodge deck area.

Skiing for spring break is becoming an annual trip for us.  I love the weather at this time!  I am definitely a warm weather skier and the same for the kids.  It was overcast the first day we arrived, but then the rest of our trip was beautiful blue skies.

We stayed at The Lodge at Breckenridge and I would highly recommend it!  It's a small 40 bed boutique lodge with such a cozy feel.  It's located up the mountain, so it boast stunning views!  They have a wonderful shuttle to the ski area and great small restaurant and bar that had live music one night.  They also include a hot breakfast each morning, which is so nice to have before heading to the slopes.

These two are really picking up the skiing.  This is their third year to go and it's so great to ski together now.  We took them on their first blue, which was a bit challenging.  Neither fell, but they were a little anxious.  It was a really long run, but it seemed to boost their confidence once they finished it.

We drove to Vail, CO one afternoon and spent the day there.  Fun shopping and great food!

And we even had to stop for a family of moose along the way.  According to the lodge, this is a mama and her two babies that have been roaming around the area.

Another great trip with lots of fun memories!  This is our second time to Breckenridge...once as a couple and now with our kids.  It's a great ski town and we will definitely be back!

Entry Update with Project Design

Good Morning!  Today I'm participating in a fun design series called Project Design which is organized by the talented Cindy from Rough Luxe Lifestyle and Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home.  The idea is to work on a small project in your home and this time it's all about 'simple ways to spruce up your entry.'  I've included links to all the other participants further down in this post and with this group, there is sure to be lots of inspiration.

I recently spruced up our front door for Spring as well, so I included a few pictures of the front porch to get started.

I replanted several of my pot plants and moved a couple to the front.  The foxtail ferns do so well in our climate.  I have them in the front and back landscaping and a couple in pots.  They got a little nipped with one hard freeze we had, but came right back.  And they tolerate the summers well too.  Not sure the name of the purple flowering plant, but loved the color and shape of the flowers.

My boxwood wreath is back with a new gingham ribbon.  And I still love my doormat that I purchased around the holidays.

Do you notice someone perched on the window in the picture above?  She is always very close by my side and listens so well.  When I opened the door to take a few pictures she calmly watched me (and all the birds and our crazy abundance of squirrels), so I had to include her.

And now on to our entry!  We don't have a huge entry/foyer, but it's just enough to have a couple of landing spots to put keys, bags, etc. if we enter the front door.  So the picture above is take standing just inside the front door.  Straight back leads to our family room and then this space opens to our study on the right and our dinning room on the left.

So here are five décor elements I think are great to spruce up your entry...

One - mirror or art work.  A mirror not only to open up the space, but I use ours all the time to do one last check of my appearance before I head out the front door.  This one is from Homegoods.  I originally had the framed lily print on our mantel (and on our piano at one time), but I think it finally found it's permanent home in the entry.  I fits perfectly on the smaller wall in this space and the frame coordinates so well with the mirror.  So many sources for art.  This one is from Minted, but Homegoods is another great place to find art.  I also recently purchased a botanical print set from Esty to download and then I plan to frame them so that's a good route too.

Two - table or bench.  A great drop spot for items.  I added a cute little bowl from Marshall's on our console table to contain keys.  And the bench often holds my purse or is a spot where we sit to put on shoes.

Three - pillows and throws.  I usually keep some sort of pillow on this entry bench.  It gets switched out a lot depending on the season.  Loving this cute navy and white pineapple pillow!  And the striped navy throw is just a decorative piece in our entry.

Four - a basket or rug.  I love baskets to both hide/contain stuff and how they add texture to a space.  I have two in our entry.  One on the shelf of the console table which is simply for decoration and then the other basket next to the bench which actually holds a throw.  I also have a jute rug by the front door (which you can see in the picture with Sadie), to both collect dirt from the outdoors and add texture again as well.

Five - flowers.  I love fresh flowers!  And so many of the grocery stores have them and they are usually reasonably priced, so I often pick some up on my trip there.  The tulips are from Trader Joe's which always has a great selection and the prices are the best!

So that's a wrap on our entry.  If you've been around my blog awhile, you already know my décor style is very simple.  So, I feel like this space has just enough to be functional and to not look bare when you come in the front door, but it's not too overwhelming for me either.

Below are links to all the other participants, who are sure to have beautiful ideas!

Just Three Things

One - Love this flush mount light for our study!  But I'm trying to stay focused on getting the kitchen done first before I jump to another room (so tempted to get it :)

Two - Adore this one shoulder blue and white striped dress so much for spring/summer.  It's very high on my wishlist!

Three - We are heading out for a ski trip next week and this beautiful lodge will be our resting place for the next week.  Can't Wait!

Keeping it short and sweet since I have a million things to do before we leave...

Do you have any plans for Spring Break?

Guest Room Refresh with Kelly Ripa Home

Good Morning!  I hope everyone's week is going well.  Can you believe it is March 1st?  I kind of feel like we have been in March for weeks now with the crazy, warm weather we have had.  My kids are off to school in shorts and everything is blooming like crazy.  We are definitely in the Spring season here.  And nothing gets me more excited to decorate and work on house project then sunshine and warm weather.

So, today I'm teaming up with Kelly Ripa Home and giving our guest room a little update.  I think it's important to have a welcoming space for our guest so they can feel comfortable in our home.  And probably the most important way to create that comfort that is by having cozy bedding.

I was excited to find that this bedding has both the stylish look I desired for this space and the comfort factor that I wanted for our guest.  This particular set is called the Weston, exclusively sold at Macy's, and it features a reversible pattern as do most of the Kelly Ripa bedding sets.  This one features a bold medallion on one side and a geometric pattern on the other.  It also includes a soft throw and three throw pillows which were a perfect addition to my window seat in this space.

I love that this space finally looks finished and boast both elegance and comfort.  Who's up first to come visit me and try it out?

You can shop the rest of the Kelly Ripa Home Collection here.
